Update by Lori Wolk. There are over 130 people registered to come play
between both sittings. Volunteers from Stoneman Douglas will be coming to
help however Lori has asked for one PTA member to come in and help bring
it altogether that night. All tickets are pre-paid as there will be no sales at
the door and everyone coming, including parents, have to pay regardless of
whether they're playing & eating or not.
Movie in the Park:
Update by Kim Lerner. The next Movie in the Park will be taking place on
Friday November 20th and Kim needs a couple of volunteers. So far she's
only gotten one other mom to help. Volunteers can bring their children and
admission is free.
Math Night:
Update by Jill Katz. Math Night will tentatively take place on December 8th
between 6-8PM at the new Publix on University & Trails End. Jill has
requested teacher volunteers and homework passes if possible. To get the
word out, she will use the email blast, e-flyers & ask the teachers to have
the kids write it in their planners.
Author Visit:
Update by Lori Wolk. Author Chris Romble also known as 'Uncle Stinky' will
be coming to Riverglades on December 3rd & 4th and talking to all grade
levels in the media center. No additional funds outside the original budget
will be needed.
Outreach:
Update by Lori Wolk. There are two separate food drives taking place: The
first is the Thanksgiving drive taking place the week before Thanksgiving
where baskets will be made and delivered to our sister school, Parkridge
Elementary. The second is the school district's Harvest Drive which goes to
area food banks. Anything collected that does not fit in the baskets for our
sister school will be going to the district. In addition there will be cans of
food collected at Bingo Night. Western Beef, BJ's and Walmart have already
donated gift certificates and there are more coming. The goal is to make 45
Thanksgiving baskets. Families can opt to sponsor a turkey for $25 or an
entire basket for $50. Extra Halloween candy can be donated towards
baskets and a collection bin is located in the front office. During the book
fair 340 gently used books were collected and will be delivered to Parkridge
Elementary at the same time as the baskets. There will also be a bicycle and
toy drive in December.
Fundraising:
Update by Sharyn Mason. The Cherrydale delivery went very well and it ran
very smoothly. Partners is education are slowly coming in and there will be
more banners placed in the outside fence.
Principal’s Report:
Update by Diane Jordan. H1N1 vaccines are schedules for Monday
November 16th, which is also the first day of BAT testing. Primary kids are
schedule to go first. About half the school has opted to have the vaccines.
There is a backup date of November 17th and parents are able to change
their mind. Children that have had the first vaccine at the pediatrician's
office may get the second one at school with proper documentation. All
children that have opted to receive it will be vaccinated first with extras
going to the parents, staff, volunteers, etc. There are possible side effects
like any other vaccine however the children are not contagious.
No update on the basketball courts or portables at this time.
